Located in the heart of Napa Valley's Town of Yountville and sitting on the original track that ran through the Napa Valley is the Newly Renovated Napa Valley Railway Inn. Walking distance to not one, not two, three, four, but now five of Thomas Keller's restaurants one of which is The French Laundry along with Wineries, Wine Bars, Shops and many other Michelin Star Restaurants. All Railcars have king beds (6 Railcars, 1 Caboose), the Station House Suite is a two room suite with a king size bed and a queen size bed. Mini Model Bakery located in one of our Cabooses is on property serving up specialty coffees along with baked goodies including one of Oprah's Favorite Things, The English Muffins. Top of the line bedding and linens will ensure a great nights sleep.

Perfect stay in the middle of Yountville! Our 3rd stay and we love the newly remodeled rooms. Very private and cute place to stay. You can leave your car in private free parking lot and walk all over Yountville. Very helpful and responsive owner/manager. Stay here!!!

Property's Favorite Review
We stayed at the Railway Inn for our matriarchs 91st birthday. The rooms were very nice, exceptionally clean and the staff was attentive and catered to every request. The location is perfect and the model bakery is so convenient and their coffees and pastries are delicious. We absolutely loved the unique atmosphere and did I mention the location location location. Railway Inn is at the top of our list for “Things we love about Yountville”!

We went to the Napa area for our anniversary. Not our first visit by any means. We usually stay in downtown Napa but decided to give the Railway Inn a shot. Needless to say, we were not disappointed and would highly recommend if you are looking for a modest place to lie your head after a day of wine tasting. The beds were ultra comfortable with extra pillows. The bathroom was just the right size for 2 people...still, we usually took turns. The room had a TV (that I think my husband turned on once), 2 sitting chairs and wine glasses for a nightcap. It even had 2 chairs and a table outside the door to our room. We sat out there a few times for wine and breakfast. I think there were only a few other guests during the time we were there, so it was very quiet. One morning, Balloons Aloft were taking off from the parking lot behind the Inn. Very cool to see it up close (even though we have personally done the balloons before)! Very quaint, lots of other restaurants and tasting rooms within walking distance. A big plus is the Mini Model Cafe located in one of the cabooses, which serves up breakfast sandwiches, coffees, lattes, etc. We had something from here every morning except our last morning (I think it was closed). At any rate, we would highly recommend the Railway Inn to anyone visiting the area.

As the owner of the Napa Valley Railway Inn I thank you for your wonderful review! I always appreciate any and all feedback so that I can make changes, when possible. The Inn is and continues to be a labor of love for my husband and myself. Thank you again.

The rooms are just fine and the location is very central. However, beware. IF YOU HAVE TO WORK DURING YOUR VACATION, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!. The WIFI is so spotty that I had to use my cell phone hotspot to get any work done. When I contacted my IT team to help troubleshoot my inability to connect to my company's VPN, I was told that the WIFI was too spotty to provide a connection. I could connect to my VPN for 30 seconds at a time and then have to reboot my computer and start over. One of the members of our party had to leave and get a room in Napa so that he could work at all. The owners of the facility had absolutely ZERO compassion and simply said "this has never happened to us before." Well, it's happening now, and one of our party had to book a hotel 20 miles away so he could work during the day. Take a look at the screenshot below. At 15Mbps download speed and 0 upload speed, don't expect to be able to do any work AT ALL!

Response from Lori Jones, Owner at Napa Valley Railway Inn
Responded Jul 27, 2023
I am a bit confused over this review. I received a text from a woman which read "GM! Hotel is lovely". This was the morning of the 3rd day of she and her husbands stay. She then informed me that her husband need to work and from what she described it sounded like he needed a hotel that provided a business center, and a pretty robust WIFI. If she had called ahead of time, I would have let her know that our system is not meant to be equal to a large hotels business center. I only spoke with the wife of the person who needed a more robust system. Although they were traveling with another couple, I never spoke to them. Regardless of who is writing this review I am sure that it will be helpful to those guests who are coming to the Napa Valley to work and not to enjoy all that the Napa Valley is famous for.

We stayed in a caboose for three nights. We found our carriage to be charming, a little basic but had everything we needed. Bonus was having the Model bakery at the end of the hotel. We enjoyed breakfast from there every morning on the deck outside our room. The unique experience outweighed all the negatives but there were a few. The room AC was noisy and struggled in the +90F heat. The office was never “manned” while we were there, so to be honest it is a stretch to call it a hotel. We did not mind as our bodies were on Central time but be prepared for a hullabaloo at 5:30 am as hot air balloons take off behind the hotel at sunrise.

Really enjoy this Inn. We were able to check in early, they text when your room is ready and give you the door code online. The rooms are very nice and clean. There is a spot outside your door to sit and have a glass of wine in the evening or coffee in the morning. Bouchon Bakery is half a block away for great coffee and pastries. It is convenient to lots of great dining and wine tasting. Only negative was the Model Bakery.

The room, on initial inspection, was tidy but I lifted up a coaster to find a used plaster which was really not very nice. Otherwise, it was good. However, and this was a big disappointment, despite what it says on their website, the Model Bakery next door is *NOT* open daily from 7AM- 7PM. I was saddened not to be able to get a fix of coffee and pastries during the week as had been advertised on their website. An email to management was promptly replied to with apologies but I notice today the wrong times are still being promoted. To repeat, the cafe is CLOSED Monday to Thursday. The other problem was the noisy fridge right next to the bed, but this was fixed by simply unplugging it. Also, have hotels now stopped providing any freebies? No complimentary bottles of water? It's the little things that make the difference.

I wish I could give the Railway Inn zero stars. I'm sure it's a lovely place to stay, but unfortunately that never happened... Long story short, my wife and I had to cancel on the same day we were supposed to check in due to a legitimate family emergency. My wife was in tears over what we were dealing with at home. I tried to call the owner, Lori Jones, several times, but I was only ever able to leave messages. I explained the situation in detail, and how sorry I was to have to cancel. I offered to provide her with proof of hospital admittance papers so she would know I wasn't making it up. I let her know I wasn't even looking for a refund, I was just hoping she would work with us to reschedule for another date in the future. We live in Sonoma County and have 3 young kids and so we were really looking forward to getting away for a night. But she only responded with a quick, impersonal email stating that because we were within the 10 day cancellation period, we would not get a refund nor credit for a future date. I tried again to explain but got the same response. She claimed she “couldn’t afford the loss." There’s no loss in working with the client to reschedule on a night during the down-season when they’re not fully booked anyway. It became obvious to me that the owner only cares about the money and not about the well-being of her clientele. I get it. It's Napa- they can do whatever they want and get away with it. But I would issue this warning to you- if you need to cancel your reservation here due to an unexpected emergency, she will NOT work with you. No refund. No partial refund. No credit for a future stay, or even a partial credit. No nothing. She makes sure to charge your credit card as soon as you make the reservation and if there's a last minute emergency, it’s not her problem. Please think twice before giving this greedy person your money. There are plenty of other hotel owners around here who have a sense of decency and community and actually care about the people who stay at their inns. FYI: We are not the kind of people who cancel reservations on the day-of just for fun. And it’s not like I cancelled at 10pm or something, it was actually a few hours before check-in time. I also never leave reviews like this, but this is a huge injustice and I thought you should know about it.

Gave the Napa Valley Railway Inn an opportunity during a 1 day stopover in Yountville and was not disappointed. Rooms are surprisingly comfortable. The place is conveniently located in front of Yountville´s top restaurants and plazas, so we could walk everywhere. The Inn's staff helped me with my questions through email before arriving and received my packages in the mail. The hotel has free parking and free wifi. Even though the hotel does not serve breakfast, we enjoyed buying breakfast to go in the acclaimed Bouchon bakery located in front of the hotel. Amazing, quaint stay! Would return with my kids!

Truthfully, I selected the Napa Valley Railway Inn because it was the most affordable option in the 4/5 star category in Yountville. It didn’t disappoint. Located within walking distance of the most notable stops in town, the room was well-appointed and very clean. It offered plenty of towels, ample storage, extra seating, a comfortable bed, solid daily housekeeping, and in-room coffee maker. I’m painfully picky but was completely satisfied and would absolutely consider a future stay. FYI…The room is cooled by a wall unit air conditioner. Hence there is a pronounced fan sound. I like white noise but that may be challenging if one prefers quiet. Speaking of the A/C it may have also masked outside noises. The inn consists of 2 long rows of repurposed rail cars which have a walkway in between. All room doors and outdoor seating is located on that walkway, so outside noise could possibly disturb with the A/C turned off.
